A New Pattern - The Iris Quilt

I am so excited to finally be able to share this quilt with you! My most popular quilt pattern has been my Tessa Quilt and I frequently have people ask me if that quilt is jelly roll or fat quarter friendly (it's not). A few months ago, I started to try to create a similar pattern that was jelly roll or fat quarter friendly.

And after a few months of playing around with different options, I came up with the Iris Quilt which is jelly roll AND fat quarter AND scrap friendly. It was worth the wait.

Since this is an extra special pattern, I thought it deserved some extra special fabric - this collection is Tula Pink's True Colors and it is a BRIGHT. I am obsessed with the fabric that I used for the sashing - it is just so good.

Both the jelly roll and fat quarter friendly versions are of the pattern are both strip pieced so this quilt comes together surprisingly quickly. Normally I try to make 2 versions of a pattern before I release it, but I couldn't help myself with this one - I've already made 3.

I will be sharing more about this quilt tomorrow and will share my pattern testers' quilts on Friday. If you would like to pick up a copy of the Iris Quilt, head over to the shop!

  4. I've made all the strip sets and I'm ready to make the rows, but there isn't enough explanation in the pattern. On the top two rows for the baby size quilt--do I sew the five strip set to the two strip set first before adding the background squares? Because when I tried doing it as rows (row one plus row two) there is a difference of the amount of the seam allowance where the 5 strip joins the two strips that will overlap the background squares.

    1. It is going to feel a little awkward, but piece it as rows - it's ok. The 5 strip set at the top of the quilt will overlap 1/4" with the background squares on each side. This part will be covered by your binding. Does that make sense?

    2. Yes, thank you. It's getting less awkward as I put more rows together. I wasn't even thinking about the binding covering it. Makes sense.

  5. What other the skills specifications? I’m a beginner wondering if this is too advanced for me.

    1. If you have sewn a few quilts, it should be ok - probably not the best project for a first quilt though.
