wip wednesday

I've just been plugging along with this Constellations quilt this week.  We are supposed to have a cool weekend coming up so I am hoping to finish it up before the temperature drops.  I made a little more progress since I took this photo and I am about 80% finished with the quilting.  I am going to hand quilt the stars so I will do that once I finish up the machine quilting.

I also got started on a baby quilt for my friend.  A few months ago I bought Denyse Schmidt's Single Girl pattern and I am finally putting it to good use.  The cutting is going very slowly.

The main project I need to get started on is presents for my daughter's teachers.  The school year is winding down right now and I am a bit lost . . . I think I'm going to go with mug rugs.  I made them bags for Christmas and now I can't think of anything else.  Any suggestions?

  1. You could make them little zippered pouches...always useful.
Oh and btw, we're forecast to have another 'cool w/e'...still waiting for the warmth to arrive :-(

  2. Wow, you've gotten a lot of quilting done on your Constellations quilt, and it looks fantastic. I second the suggestion for zippered pouches - they are easy and useful.

  3. Gorgeous quilt! You make one beautiful thing after another. Could you make them coasters? I know that is the same idea as mug rug. I just bought Patchwork Please and it has the cutest coasters in it.

  6. Oh, thanks for the reminder, I need to start on teacher's gift as well! I made her a zippered pouch for Christmas, so I was thinking a fabric bucket, I haven't tried this yet, but have seen beautiful results: http://ayumills.blogspot.com/2008/05/tutorial-fabric-basket.html

  7. Yeah, teachers love pencil cases so a zippered pouch will be great, or key chains or lanyards. I am a teacher and would use all these things. I can't wait to see Constellations finished. It's magical!

  11. I ended up making some tiny (About 4.5 x 4.5 inches) totes for my twins teachers that I found at allpeoplequilt. They are so tiny and adorable. I'm going to let the boys pick out a few treats to put inside of them.

  12. The quilting is just gorgeous on this! I like the idea of zip pouches, Gwenny Penny has a great tutorial for zip pouches that look like pencils. - http://www.gwennypenny.com/2011/08/pencil-pouch-tutorial.html
