I am going pretty scrappy with the colors for the quilt and I am trying to use scraps in every block. This also seems like a good opportunity to use up some novelty prints that I have sitting around so I am going to do some fussy cutting in some of the blocks.
For do. Good Stitches this month Becky asked to make Crazy Square blocks using this tutorial and boy-ish colors. This should make a fun quilt for a little boy and I am always happy to have a reason to use up some scraps :)
Even though cutting the pieces for the Farmer's Wife is kind of a pain, it was fun to put them together and I am excited to work on the quilt this year. Are you "farming" in 2014?
Glad you're having fun with the farmer's wife blocks. I agree the templates are not bad at all. A lot of my blocks I just did the math, and for ones I couldn't I just used the templates. Have fun.
ReplyDeleteI love what you're doing with these, Erica! It's such a great mix of fabrics -- so fun and full of personality!
ReplyDeleteA strong start! For using scraps, they actually look quite cohesive, which I like!
ReplyDeleteI need to get back to at some point - I think I made 6 or 7 blocks earlier this year. Yours look great so far!
ReplyDeleteyour farmer's wife blocks look amazing. Love the colors and all the fussy cuts you're using.
ReplyDeleteYes I am. Here is a link to one of my posts about my Farmers Wife Journey

I have recently found the missing fabric for the sashing and have taken up the cause of making it queen size again!
Love the crazy squares blocks! I want to try this made into a quilt :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great start, o brave one! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI must try the farmers wife at some point, love how your blocks are shaping up.
ReplyDeleteMarti Michell did a whole thing last year of which of her templates are for cutting out the Farmer's Wife quilt. There was an e-mail every month which I think put which blocks with which template. I got an e-mail saying she was going to do it again this year by popular request. As you can see I haven't made my Farmer's wife quilt yet. I have the book but I don't want to start until I get the templates from Marti Michell. If you want to know any more about this contact me at julietwood191@gmail.com and I could forward you my downloads if you like.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good idea, it's so easy to get bogged down with so many templates! I'm already way behind you but hoping I can catch up this week!

ReplyDeleteYes! My lqs started a quilt along last year. I've made about 50 blocks but still have a long way to go. I love your blocks. Scrappy, yet cohesive.
