Because the blocks are so small and they aren't going to get a lot of wear and tear hanging up on the wall and because I didn't want to have to quilt over the tiny little bulky seams, I did not quilt over the stars. I densely quilted the neutral blocks and then stitched in the ditch around the stars. I like how it helps the stars pop a little more.
The background fabric is a very faint dot print from Vintage Modern by Bonnie and Camille and the brown fabric in the background blocks is one of my new favorite prints from Up, Up, and Away (available here and here).
This is going to hang up in our new guest room and I think it will look nice with the Rocky Mountain Puzzle quilt that I am making for the guest bed (yes, I'm still working on it!). Now I just need to finish up some projects and non-sewing stuff so that I can get started on the Farmer's Wife blocks that I am planning to make this year.
Absolutely gorgeous! I only made 4 of the blocks last year - I must finish (and copy your on-point layout)!!!!
ReplyDeleteAmazing! I can't wait to start seeing your farmer's wife blocks.
ReplyDeleteReally lovely!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it. Great job!
ReplyDeleteIn love what you've done with these blocks.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! It looks lovely as a wall hanging.
ReplyDeleteI've been waiting for this finish -- it is wonderful!! I love every choice you made! I'm crazy about the quilting. I have done a bit of quilting like that too, spirograph-style, and I think it's super cute. Such a wonderful wall hanging!
ReplyDeleteI love how you put them together! Yours is the first finished LS quilt I've seen. Maybe you're the first one done? Anyway, hope to get mine put together soon!
ReplyDeleteOoh, lovely x
ReplyDeleteI love your fabric choices ...such a great little quilt! Thanks for letting us know the background...I've been looking for something just like that! I'm one who has made the FW quilt and it is one of my proudest accomplishments! I'll enjoy watching you make yours, I am sure.
ReplyDeleteoh this is just beautiful!! How nice to have a finished project with your year's worth of blocks!
ReplyDeleteWow! This is beautiful. I enjoyed watching your blocks each month. You have made lovely choices regarding fabric and final layout. Well done!

ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous, Erica. I absolutely love what you did with these amazing stars, the layout is perfect/ And it will look amazing with the Rocky star quilt.
ReplyDeleteI like the blocks on point, and how you chose to quilt it is just right. A very nice finish Erica!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful stars. I had no idea they were only 6". I've only done 28 of the farmers wife blocks. Steady and slow...
ReplyDeleteThat turned out great! And the quilting really does help the blocks pop. Can't wait to see your FW blocks. I stalled out on mine. Hopefully I'll get to it again someday.
ReplyDeleteGives me inspiration to complete MY Lucky Stars top with my 12" blocks but it is pretty far down the "to do" list at this point. And I joined for 2014!
ReplyDeleteYour finished quilt turned out so lovely and I really like your layout.
ReplyDeleteOh this is wonderful Erica! I've been admiring your stars all through 2013 and they just look awesome together.
ReplyDeleteMy your quilting is spectacular! Someday I want to try that pattern on just the right (small) quilt. I think it works wonderfully the way you did not quilt the special stars. congrats on this finish!
ReplyDeleteI love the colours for this. I am currently working on 6" blocks, and like you, it is hard to get the size across on the internet. Great finish.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great quilt!
ReplyDeleteThose are absolutely beautiful blocks! Really fun to look at :)
ReplyDeleteThese are very familiar to me;)
ReplyDeleteOh yeah I did these too,but now they are stacked on a shelf by my stash of fabric! Hope to get to them eventually and turn them into a quilt!
I love how yours turned out with the dots in the background and the setting squares:):)
So beautiful, I love the mix of fabrics they work so well together :)
ReplyDeleteI love those stars. So fun! And great coordination overall. I came over from Crazy Mom Quilts blog on her Finish it Up Friday links.
ReplyDeleteLove your block of the month stars quilt. I am making the 12 inch blocks and am way behind. I am retired and have much more free time than you, I imagine. You were my inspiration for starting the project and I did not come across it until September so I will use that as my primary excuse.
