Teacher's Gift Plus Quilt

My daughter's kindergarten teacher this year has been fantastic.  We moved in a month after school started and Harper really struggled.  Her teacher made her feel welcome and has been positive and encouraging.  So I wanted to make sure to do something special for her.

I know that her favorite colors are royal blue, purple, and pink so I wanted to incorporate all of those colors.  I had a couple prints from Aneela Hooey's Hello Petal which just happened to involve all of those colors, plus they seemed perfect for a kindergarten teacher.

Because I have had a lot on my plate lately I did a simple plus quilt with 5" squares.  I think that because the squares are so big it makes the quilt look smaller than it is: it is 63" x 72".  It is quilted with crosshatching since apparently that's all I do anymore, ha ha.  But seriously it is my favorite.

The backing is a Shelburne Falls print that I had on hand and the binding is (I think) Mama Said Sew by Sweetwater.

All that it needs is for my daughter to help me make a label for the back.  She still has 2 entire weeks of school left so we should have plenty of time (thought we will probably save it for the last minute).

  2. What a lovely gift. I'm sure she will be overcome by such a thoughtful quilt. It looks lovely and I'm a fan of the cross hatch quilting too. Sounds like you and you're family are slowly settling into the new rhythms of the local neighborhood. It can be super tough trying to find your niche can't it. I've been here for 6 years now, and I'm still not sure I've found mine....

  6. Oh my gosh, what a gift! I was a teacher for 10 years before I started staying at home with my boys and I was always so touched at how generous the parents could be...especially with those little ones that needed a little bit of extra love. I'm sure your daughter's teacher will love it.

  8. Where were you when I was teaching?! ;) Seriously thoughtful gift, and the teacher sounds very deserving. Glad your daughter had a successful year of Kindy. That's such a special year. My son starts next year, and is really shy so I'm a bit nervous for him. It's going to be weird for me being on the other side of the parent/teacher relationship.

  20. The colours are stunning! I have a layer cake of that line but haven't cracked it open yet to view all the fabrics close up. Plus quilts are so good. I did one of those silly Facebook surveys yesterday about what is the best US city for you to live in. San Diego was my match! Probably because it is at the ocean and has the same climate as South Australia. Enjoy your summer holidays xxx
