Library Totes

We have been making lots of trips to the public library this summer.  Our library in Los Angeles left a lot to be desired so we have been loving the great library in our community here in San Diego.

But every time we go my kids each pick out at least 10-15 books which I then lug home.  I am glad that they love books, but the books then get spread all over the house. I thought I would make them each a little tote to carry their books and then to keep their books inside once we get home.

For Jonah's I used a Mo Willems Pigeon print from Cloud 9 Fabrics.  My kids LOVE the Mo Willems books and they have really helped my kids get excited about reading.  If you are looking for some fun books to read to your kids or grandkids, The Pigeon Needs a Bath, There is a Bird on Your Head, and Knuffle Bunny are our favorites.

In addition to the Pigeon print I used Essex linen in black for the bag.

For Harper's I used a Heather Ross print that I bought from Spoonflower a while back.  Putting their names on the bags wasn't originally my plan but they needed a little something extra and I thought the names would be fun

The purple solid is Kona Plum and the orange is Kona School Bus.  Can you tell from her squinty eyes that it was extremely bright outside when I took these photos?

The linings are a Flea Market Fancy print and a Michael Miller print.  I lined the the outer fabric with Thermolam and just kind of guesstimated on the size.

So far the books have been contained to the bags and there is a little less chaos in our house.  Mission accomplished!

I am currently out of town visiting my family in Utah so I apologize if I don't respond to emails and comments quickly.  I have scheduled a couple of posts for this week so it won't be too quiet around here!

  1. They turned out so cute! I still lug the books, but limit them to 10-12 total. My son would love his own bag though.

  3. My daughter enjoys the Mo Willems books as well. We like to look for the hidden pigeons throughout his books.
