Cotton and Steel Reusable Grocery Bags

Back when Los Angeles decided that it would be getting rid of plastic grocery bags, I bought this reusable grocery bag pattern to make myself some cute new bags.  But then we moved before LA got rid of the plastic bags and they have been on my to-do list ever since.

They weren't really anywhere near the top of the list, but when I saw the new Cotton + Steel canvas prints I bumped them up a few spots.  I love the canvas because it isn't really bulky but it feels so sturdy, but I think these bags would be lovely in quilting cotton too.

I also love that since I will use these all of the time I will get to see all of these cute prints.   The body of the bag has no interfacing so it is nice and floppy, but I did add some SF101 interfacing to the handles to give them a little more substance.

These would definitely make good gifts and I may possibly be making a couple for a relative who is having a birthday in the next few days, hint hint.  So there will be more of these to share soon.

The pattern comes in multiple sizes.  I wanted a big bag and the large is just what I was looking for.  Though they are probably a little too big for my kids.

  5. Those are so fun! I've made one bag similar to that for my aunt that lives in Santa Rosa, CA, but I looove the fabrics you chose. The baggers are going to so enjoy filling them with your groceries!

  6. Thanks for sharing! I have a family member in LA and she told me after I made her a smaller tote about the grocery bags. She uses the smaller one all the time but these large ones will be great for her Christmas present. I know she will use them and love them. Thanks!

  8. Love your blog so much. Can you give any info on where to purchase the pattern. Live in Indiana, but hate those plastic things that break (but only with the eggs or glass jars) : ) Keep up your great blog.

  10. The bags look great in the linen and cotton mix fabrics, do you still line them with quilting cotton, as in the pattern?

  11. They look great. I should make some of these for my mom. Austin got rid of plastic bags at the beginning of last year, so she is always looking for cute reusable bags.
