As much as I love making scrap quilts, they do involve a lot of sorting which takes a lot of time and leaves lots of little tiny pieces of fabric all over my sewing room (let's be honest, I am finding them all over the house). But I did enjoy making this project for my sister.
If you have been reading my blog for a while, you might remember that I planned to make scrap quilts for my Mom and sisters in 2014. This one didn't quite make the cut, but it was pretty close.
This quilt is for my sister Carly who hates pink, so I tried to stick to reds, blues, greens, grays, yellows, and oranges. I did stick a little purple in there, I couldn't help myself. It is a little loud and crazy, but I think that's just what a scrap quilt should be.
Normally I like to push right ahead and get my quilts basted, but this one wore me out. I have the backing ready and hopefully will get started on the quilting soon.
it's beautiful! Scrap sorting is on my to do list (no chopping yet, and I *still* have fabric all over the house!!!!!) x
ReplyDeleteI'm working on a scrappy quilt, and I just found a piece of fabric in my purse! Not sure how it managed it's way in there.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt! It's really bright and beautiful.
Love all of the geometric-type prints in there! :)
ReplyDeleteI love this one!
ReplyDeleteOoh, pretty! I've had a kaleidoscope on my short list of quilts I want to do for a while now, but I keep shying away because it just seems like SO much work. Yours is beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful quilt. Your time sorting fabrics paid off I love the shapes you can see. With so many colors I would expect it to look like a jumble but it doesn't it's beautiful and happy! Nice gift!! Lucky Sister!
ReplyDeleteHoly smokes this quilt my breath away! Good job! Now I want to make one!
ReplyDeleteWow wow wow. This is beautiful. I, too, dislike pink, so you can only imagine how pleasing the colors you chose are!
ReplyDeleteI love how it turned out! Making scrappy quilts can be kind of a pain, it does take longer than using yardage for sure, but the end result is always great :)
ReplyDeleteOh.... I want to do a Kaleidoscope but it is such a mind bender, every piece needs to have a value evaluation... yours motivates me to tackle the challenge! Thank you for sharing such a happy quilt.
ReplyDeleteLove it - wonderful scrap quilt! Since I'm doing a couple of QALs using scraps, I worked on sorting scraps today - oh my - too many scraps! I'd love to give some away if shipping wasn't so expensive. No kidding, I have tote boxes full of scraps and I know I'll never use them all. I'm sure your sister will LOVE this quilt!
ReplyDeleteLove this! Whose pattern or tutorial did you use?
ReplyDeleteI love it! What pattern did you use? Is it paper pieced or with templates. I've always admired Kaleidoscope quilts and this one just pulls me right in. She'll love it!
ReplyDeleteI am usually a quiet blog reader, but when something is spectacular I can't help but say something. I love this and your choice of fabrics is spot on to make the different shapes come to life. Way to go!
ReplyDeleteyou did a great job. it's gorgeous and scrappy without being overwhelming. your sister is lucky!
ReplyDeleteI like this one a lot - great use of scraps :-)
ReplyDeleteYeah! I'm working on a kaleidoscope quilt, too! It is such a wonderful design 😀 My blocks are 14'', so my quilt gets finished a little bit faster than yours.

beauty... as always ! Congratulations on your other 'project' as well, hope you are feeling well.
ReplyDeleteThis is a stunning quilt top. I love the effect of all the scraps. It isn't too busy, it is just right! I hope one day I am brave enough to make a kaleidoscope quilt!!
ReplyDeleteLove how this looks! To be honest, I find little pieces of fabric (oh, and even worse-thread) all over the house no matter WHAT kind of quilting project I'm working on!
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt , I am a huge fan of scrappy quilts and this one is just beautiful ! Lucky sister :-)
ReplyDeleteI love this Kaleidoscope quilt - have you ever thought about doing a tutorial? ...just for one block; I can work out the rest :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great looking scrap quilt! I made one of these several years ago and had a terrible time getting my points to match up. Yours is wonderful.:)

ReplyDeleteSo this is really really lovely. I just adore the way it moves, sort of like the ... that other block, but I like this better. The other block I am guessing is like "storm at sea" or something.... cant remember.
I love this. What size triangle is that? 45º?
thank you for sharing this. Lucky lucky sister of yours to have such a wonderful treasure madeby YOU
I love this one. Are the blocks paper pieced or is it made using a kelido ruler? I'm in a few bees this year and the Kelido blocks are the ones that I will be having the ladies make over the course of this year. I'm leaning toward the paper piece method to ensure consistency in the blocks.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful
ReplyDeleteI love all kaleidoscope quilts, but this one is particularly lovely. I like how fresh and happy it looks. That's something I would like to make someday. It's beautiful!

ReplyDeleteAh - this quilt is so beautiful. Lovely and scrappy and colourful and like so many others I have lots of questions about sizes and paper piecing or not and...... Could you tell us about the pattern please? Thanks for sharing!
