Happy Friday! We are just wrapping up Spring Break at our house and it has been a long week. I love my children dearly but they are driving me crazy.
This quilt is actually going to go to one of my son's kindergarten teachers. She is wonderful; I love how much she appreciates my son's personality and has helped him to learn and grow.
I came up with the idea for the quilt after ordering some of Heather Ross' Tiger Lily fabric (I ordered mine here) to use as a quilt backing. I love this print - the colors, the flowers, everything. It is so sweet.
This color scheme was fun to work with but is a little out of my comfort zone. I love pink and orange, but am not big on yellow or green, but together I really like the color combo.
The binding is one of my all time favorite prints - Chicopee simple plaid. I have gone through so much of it and am down to about a half yard, I think I might need to hunt some down. It makes such a great binding fabric.
Finished size: 62" x 74"
Binding: Chicopee Simple Plaid in Red
Batting: Quilter's Dream Cotton Select
Lovely quilt. I've never released a pattern other than free for my guild. But I can tell you that especially for beginner quilters, a well tested pattern makes all the difference. So I'd have pattern testers. This is such a great design, you'll want the instructions to shine as well. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteThis is just beautiful! I think your color combination is sweet and hopefully the recipient will love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gift of gratitude! I adore it and I know your son's teacher will love it!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a lucky teacher! It looks really interesting to make, yet not intimidating.
ReplyDeleteThat quilt is sweet, and far better than another coffee cup with an apple on it. Good luck with the pattern work and release. I've only cobbled out things for myself and my friends, nothing formal, but I do appreciate a well written pattern (or recipe).
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful and I LOVE the name! :O) I've written a few patterns, but I'm no pro. I've had a couple people test my patterns and I think that's a good idea.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely, lovely quilt. The fabric is a perfect match for your pattern! Lucky Teacher!
ReplyDeleteI have a dear friend who has sold quite a few of her patterns and she always does pattern test quilts - it not only takes the 'kinks' out of the pattern but it verifies that the instructions are clear. Good luck - would be happy to test for you and BTW ... Love the quilt! A very lucky teacher indeed.
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is the sweetest! The color combos and pattern are so well paired, I'm certain his teacher will love it! I have tested a few patterns for other designers and have always felt that a second pair of eyes really helped in the end. I've helped to clarify, reorganize, and illustrate difficult patterns. Also of course checking measurements, spelling, grammar, and general mistakes. I have in the past used patterns with errors and there is nothing more frustrating!

ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt and love your backing.
ReplyDeletevisiting from crazy mum quilts. Wow what an amazing quilt to give away
ReplyDeleteWow-- you are raising the bar on teacher gifts pretty high there. And here I was patting myself on the back if I remembered to send something for Xmas :) Beautiful work -- I think the colors are perfectly balanced... there is not one color/pattern stealing the show and they are all "playing nicely together" in the final composition.
ReplyDeleteShe will cherish this quilt! You did an amazing job! LOVE!!!
ReplyDeleteIf you are looking for a beginning quilter to test, I would be interested ... I love this pattern and have been collecting fabrics that I think would work really well with this design for a while now. Let me know!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I have never made my own pattern, but have tested a few! I'd be willing to do a test run if you want.
ReplyDeleteYour sons teacher is going to love it! It's stunning!
Love your quilt design and the quilt itself, just beautiful !! I will look forward to your forthcoming pattern for this lovely creation!!
ReplyDeleteSO Pretty. Love, love, love the colors
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful quilt, love your colours choice XXX
ReplyDeleteI have written some patterns, and agree it should be tested. Good luck with the process. The Quilt is beautiful!

ReplyDeleteA quilting friend works for a quilt shop that has released numerous patterns. Initially they did not use testers but on several patterns there were errors they'd read right over. Naturally complaints ensued and now most if not all of their patterns are tested. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteHand in the air waving wildly!! Pick me! Pick me! I'd love to try some pattern testing. I saw this pattern and thought wow! This would be fun with my civil war fabrics! But I love the light, uplifting colors of your quilt. Your teacher will love this! cakilliany at hotmail dot com
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is so beautiful! I just love the color scheme of it, and had to look at it again and again. It is so bright and cheerful. You did a wonderful job! What a special gift it will be!
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is amazing. I love the color combination-a breath of fresh air. I have never written a pattern, but I have been a pattern tester. I would be happy to test this pattern. Let me know. @camillesquilting
ReplyDeleteStunning! So beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun, happy quilt--I know your son's teacher will love it! Absolutely have your pattern tested! I know Terry Atkinson and she tests her patterns with small groups at various quilt shops to get lots of feedback. There's nothing worse than finding errors in a pattern that result in not having enough fabric , etc. Good luck--it's a wonderful design!
ReplyDeleteReally lovely! Pattern testing makes great sense, and you have alternative quilt colorations for your pattern. If you need a pattern tester, I'm in!
ReplyDeleteI would be thrilled to test that pattern for you!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, lovely quilt! That color combo with all of the white is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is gorgeous! I think it never hurts to have some people test out a pattern before publishing. I'd be willing to test if you still need volunteers.
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning and beautiful quilt! Congratulations! I will be happy to buy your pattern when it is released!
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning happy quilt!!!! I'd be happy to test and purchase this pattern. It's stunning!
ReplyDeleteso so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI've designed and written for a couple of quilt magazines. My patterns have always been tested by the magazine before publication. I'm an English teacher so I'm rather picky about grammar and such, so my recommendation would naturally be to have the pattern tested and edited.
ReplyDeleteRegardless, I love the design and the colors are gorgeous. It's hard to work outside of your comfort zone, but you did a terrific job!
I keep coming back to stare at this gorgeous quilt. Will be waiting for the pattern to be released. Please have it tested. I have purchased several kits from an online store and have run into pattern problems with everyone of them. Will buy their fabrics but not their patterns.
ReplyDeleteStunning, What a wonderful gift. She will be surprised at the amount of effort you went to for her.Good teachers are in great demand, and your son must have got a diamond of one.Cool and breezy that's how it makes you feel. Thanks, for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is lovely. I can imagine it in so many colour ways. Have you seen the Pattern Writing Blog series over at Meadow Mist Designs? It is about writing and publishing your own quilt patterns and may be helpful. Here is the link

I like this quilt. You did a great job!
ReplyDeleteThat pattern is lovely -- I'm looking forward to seeing it in your shop. Love the backing - it's a great choice, I'm obsessed with that line of fabric.
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt. I have a friend that produces patterns and she has a group that gets together and she gives us a pattern to test. To make sure that it is correct and easy to understand. Also, it gives her a chance to see how others might interpret the pattern with their color choices. If you are still looking for someone to test your patterns, I would be interested.
ReplyDeleteYour new pattern is lovely, and your quilt will make the perfect cover picture. As a pattern designer, yes, you should have your pattern tested. And have someone look over your math, checking the number of pieces to cut and the yardage required, etc. I always do, and I am always shocked at what I missed!
ReplyDeleteI would love to test a quilt for you! I have loads of 2.5" strips and squares which look like the size you used! decoratorcarol@gmail.com And my name is right! Carol
ReplyDeleteI test patterns for 2 other bloggers, though its not often as they rotate between a few of us ladies, and yes, I think its very important as we have found mistakes in the patterns before. :) The ones I do will give me perimeters, ask me to do a baby quilt top or a throw, etc, and email them back all my results. If the math added up, cutting instructions, ease of instructions, and anything else we can think of. I would be happy to help if you like. Nice job. Cute quilt. Like the fabrics you chose.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely have someone test your pattern before publishing. I usually have two people test mine. Patterns sell a lot better on Craftsy, and there is no charge to list or sell there. Etsy is better for actual handmade items. I have stores in both.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet quilt. Can't say I'm good enough to release a pattern. Love the quilt
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilt, teacher will be so happy~I would love to test your pattern!

ReplyDeleteThe quilt is absolutely gorgeous. If you are still looking, I would be thrilled to test the pattern for you. I am an experienced quilter and have had to work with many terribly written patterns. Would love to help.
ReplyDeleteOne seriously pretty quilt going out to one very lucky teacher. You've done an amazing job pairing up fabrics and colors, which is not an easy task. Wishing you the best with making this in to a pattern. I'll have to keep my eye out for it. :-)
ReplyDeleteI would love to test the pattern for you. Just let me know anytime! !

ReplyDeleteWhen I saw this in my Bloglovin' feed, it stopped me in my tracks. I love the design, the palette -- well done!
ReplyDeleteLove your happy quilt. I am willing to test your pattern. I had already looked at the square construction before I saw your comments about testing. It looks like a lot of piecing triangles and squares, quit a challenge. I am an intermediate quilter. If you still need some people to test, contact me. Shirley

ReplyDeleteMy moms name is Carol, she passed away but I would love to make this quilt in her honor, can you tell me where I can find the pattern? This quilt is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love your fabric choices! They give this quilt both a modern and vintage feel at the same time! I love this quilt and I've pinned it to my "Quilty Goodness" board on Pinterest (with proper credit, of course!). Feel free to follow me if you'd like: http://pinterest.com/lipglass/quilty-goodness/
