I had a bit of a mental battle on what to do with the Gleaned fabrics that were in the February Culcita Box so I went with the quilter's version of Occam's razer: the simpler option is always better.
While large, complicated projects can be their own kind of fun, there is something so nice about sewing something simple (this is something I have been thinking about a lot lately and, hint hint, there are some simple, quick, beginner-friendly patterns coming in the near future).
Carolyn Friedlander's have such a wonderful texture and I wanted the quilt to show them off.
For the backing, I used one of Carolyn's Crisscross prints. The binding is a dark gray and I used big stitches to sew it down on the back of the quilt.
Finished size: 32.5" x 42"
Fabric: Gleaned by Carolyn Friedlander from the January Culcita Box
Backing: Crisscross by Carolyn Friedlander
Batting: Quilter's Dream Cotton Select

I really like this quilt. Will you be publishing a pattern for it? Take care, Mary.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Yes, I am working on it!
DeleteOh! I like the big stitches on the binding. That isn't something I would have thought to do.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I really enjoy sewing the binding that way. I have a tutorial here: http://www.kitchentablequilting.com/2017/03/big-stitch-binding-tutorial.html

ReplyDeleteThank you Rosemary!
DeleteLove that big stitch look! You probably just started a new trend! :) Is that machine or hand sewn? And if machine, what size stitches did you use?
ReplyDeleteThanks! It is hand sewn. I have a tutorial with all of the details here: http://www.kitchentablequilting.com/2017/03/big-stitch-binding-tutorial.html
