Stepping Stones Quilt

Toward the end of last year I saw this awesome pattern on Instagram and knew it would be perfect for my nephew. I had already picked out of a stack of (mostly) Denyse Schmidt prints to use for the quilt, and since this pattern was also made was made with her prints, I knew it wouldn't turn out too girly.

The pattern is great. It is a little challenging since you end up sewing on the bias A LOT so it is not a great choice for beginners. But it is one that I will definitely make again.

In my mind I keep thinking of this quilt as having mostly-Denyse Schmidt prints, but I think less than half of the prints are actually hers. It is Denyse Schmidt inspired. The white fabric is a Cotton + Steel print that I had picked up for another project, but hadn't ended up using, so I was thrilled that it worked for this quilt. The best part is that this quilt was 100% fabric from my stash.

For the backing I used a print from Denyse's Chicopee line that I bought ages ago.

I ended up adding a row and a column to the throw size of the Stepping Stones pattern to make it a little bigger.

  2. New favorite. I also made the Plaid-ish. Such Fun!!!! I also make quilts for the nieces and nephews and give it to them at the wedding shower with a shower curtain and a picnic basket. Shower curtain is so the quilt actually gets to go on the ground without soaking up moisture.
Looking forward to your next adventuresome quilt.
