I finished these pillows a couple evenings ago and then put them in my living room so that I could photograph them. When I woke up the next morning, I heard my daughter say, "Why are there Christmas pillows on the couch?" Ha ha, excellent question.
Making Christmas projects in July makes a lot of sense - every year I intend to make a holiday project closer to the season, but it never happens. October/November/December are a blur every year.
I am not generally much of a holiday decorator, but I do like to change up the pillows on my couch. For this project, I used a single block from my Mary quilt pattern and I just love how it turned out.
The blocks are pretty quick to put together and let me use a variety of fabrics from this collection. It's called Home for the Holidays by Michael Miller Fabrics and it is a super cute combination of Christmas and winter prints (which I love because they won't look super out of place when they are still on my couch in January!).
The solids are Cotton Couture in Turf, Nite, and Soft White.
I recently upgraded my pillow inserts to something feels a little more plush: these pillows have been a great improvement over the poly filled pillow I had been using for the past few years.
Right now I'm feeling really good about getting some Christmas sewing done. Do you sew for the holidays early in the year?
