This is the Fussy Cut Sampler. I participated in a quilt along a couple of years ago and it is a fantastic pattern. The block instructions are well-written and none of the blocks are too fiddly.
About 5 years ago, I made my very first sampler which was a paper pieced stars sample over at Don’t Call Me Betsy. This was a great intro to sampler quilts because it was so low stress - I did one little block each month.
My unfinished sampler quilt is my Farmer’s Wife. This is a gorgeous pattern, but all of the tiny pieces just drove me crazy. I have enough blocks sitting around to make a baby size quilt and it is on my very long to do list.
Speaking of adding to the to do list, I have been feeling like I need to start a new sampler quilt. I recently asked for some suggestions of sampler-favorites on Instagram and wanted to share the list with all of you. I am still considering what I want to make (if someone figures out how to get more time and energy, please lemme know!) but I will share that with you once I figure it out.
- Tula Pink City Sampler
- Elizabeth Hartman’s Patchwork City
- Gnome Angel’s Fusion Sampler
- Dear Jane
- Summer Moon
- Farm Girl Vintage
- Jen Kingwell pattern (I would probably do her Small World pattern)
- Amy Gibson’s Quilt Block Cookbook
- #52blocks52weeks by the Canadian Quilter’s Association
- Anna Maria Horner’s Dear Diary Sampler
I would love your input - have you done a sampler that you loved?
Besides making a Farmer's Wife a few years ago, I have also made Tula's and Jen Kingwell's Its a Small World and Delilah. Jen's patterns are FULL of small pieces and quite a marathon of cutting and piecing! I loved making Tula's because the blocks are simple but graphic in design and make quite a statement. Good luck in your decision.
ReplyDeleteThank you, that is very helpful information! I am so torn!
DeleteI've done an Amish 12 block quilt, but other than that, I've never done a sampler. I am ready for the push to get me started on "Farm Girl Vintage"...and...ooooh! I love "Summer Moon"!

Last year I joined the Summer Sampler 2018 hosted by Lee Heinrich. I received a new block each week, which was a challenging, but good pace for me. I loved the finished product. https://www.instagram.com/p/BtL1YO6H7do/
ReplyDeleteThis year, I joined the Summer Sampler 2019 and have yet to make a single block!! The sampler is also referred to as Boot Camp and I guess I'm just not up to it right now. I also joined the Perfect HST 2019 and that's going a bit better with one block per month.
I did Tula Pink’s City Sampler and loved it! And Amy Gibson’s Quilt Cookbook but did not like that near as much as Tula’s. I’ve done about 70 Farmer’s Wife blocks but can’t seem to finish it.
