A Twin Size Quilt

A couple of years ago, I made a quilt that was inspired by a BOM series from the Portland Modern Quilt Guild. It was a lot of fun and I decided that it would be a fun pattern to making matching quilts for the beds in my daughter's room.

At the time, we were fostering a 4 year old little girl and I knew that she would get a kick out of having matching beds. Not too long after that, that little girl ended up going to a long term guardianship and the blocks for both quilts sat on the shelf.

A few weeks ago I decided that I should probably finish the quilts. Right now we are fostering a 15 year old girl and I do NOT think she would get a kick out of having matching beds ;) She brought her own bedding with her which is completely fine, but now I don't really have a use for these two twin size quilts. I finished one of them up a couple weeks ago but the other one is still in blocks.

So while I may not have a use for this quilt at this exact moment, it was a blast to make. It is a great stash buster and it uses a lot of my favorite prints and colors. Plus it is super quick and easy.

Let's take a moment to appreciate this backing fabric - I LOVE IT SO MUCH. I have used it at least one other time as a backing fabric (here!) and lots of other times in quilts. It is an older Kimberly Kight print from her Lucky Strike collection.

The quilting is an organic grid as usual. It worked really well with this design and I have found that a grid like this holds up really well on a bed quilt.

Will I ever finish the second quilt? It is on the to do list, but not toward the top. I have a really pretty turquoise backing for the other quilt and will get it finished up at some point.

  5. Very cool! Now you can remember your quilts by the foster children that were with your family! This is a very happy quilt and would make any child ( or me) feel wrapped in warmth and caring! What a gift your quilting talent is! Blessings to you in your fostering outreach. I agree, this retro style fabric for the backing is so beautiful. It reminds me of fabrics ( or “ material” as we called it back then) from my childhood.
