The Birdie Quilt - Jelly Roll Version

If you follow me on Instagram you might have seen some photos of this quilt a while back when I was putting it together. It has been on the back burner as I have finished up some other projects, but I finally got it finished and photographed so I could share it with you.

This is the Birdie Quilt pattern made with a jelly roll! Well, technically it is made with 2.5" strips cut from my stash, but it could have been made with a jelly roll. I have been trying to pull from my stash a little more and this was such a fun way to do it.

When I wrote the pattern, adding the jelly roll option was such a great fit. You can get pretty wacky with your fabric combinations and the pattern still works really well. I was going to play it safe and use dark gray for my sashing, but I have had a bolt of Kona Celestial sitting on my shelf for a long time and thought it would be a fun risk. I love how it turned out!

One of my favorite things about this quilt was using this grid fabric (it's by Ruby Star Society) as the background fabric for some of the blocks. At first I thought it was going to be too busy, but it worked perfectly. I guess I'm going to have to stock up on some more of it ;)

The backing fabric is one of my all time favorites - it's from Panorama by Cotton + Steel. I bought a small cut of each of the colors of this print because it's adorable and the colors mix really well with a lot of collections, but I couldn't resist picking up a big cut of yardage for backing fabric. It was perfect for this quilt.
