A Fairy Tale Tessa Quilt

During the Tessa QAL, I didn't share any of the new quilts that I have been making, but I was still doing lots of sewing so prepare yourself for lots of new quilts over the next few weeks.

Starting with . . . the first quilt that I made for the QAL. When I realized that I could fussy cut the Heather Ross princess and the pea print for this quilt, I was so excited. This print has been in my stash for a long time because I hadn't found a project that would accommodate the princess (the princess/bed are around 15" from top to bottom) without chopping her into pieces. 

From there, I used colors that are in the princess print to pull fabrics from my stash. I tried to use a few other Heather Ross prints and was able to use a Briar Rose print and the orange floral - I can't remember which collection it is from (I think the one with Snow White?).

I was a little hesitant to use the brown Architextures crosshatch for the background fabric because it didn't seem like a "cool" choice to use brown with so much, pink, orange, and yellow, but I am glad I went for it. It calms the quilt down a little bit.

For the backing, I splurged a little bit. For the past few years, I have kept a robust selection of backing fabric in my stash (usually around 25 prints, a lot!) but it was taking up so much room, I haven't been replenishing the fabrics as I have used them up.

With so many prints on hand, I almost always had something that would work with whatever quilt I was making. Now that my stash is dwindling, I don't have as many options so I was FORCED to order something. Ha ha, just kidding. It was a pleasure to pick up this print for the backing. 

For the quilting, I did my normal organic crosshatch. While I enjoy doing this quilting style on all of my projects, I think it works particularly well for this pattern.
