The Julia Quilt - Updated (With an Added Size)

One really wonderful thing about writing patterns is that you get better at it over time. Imagine that! In addition to just having more practice writing explanations, there is also increased skill with creating diagrams, formatting the patterns, and making smart use of fabric.

Since I have now been writing patterns for almost 5 years, I have been slowly going through and re-doing graphics or making the layouts a little more clean on older patterns. Recently, I re-released my Eliza Quilt pattern with additional sizing and all-new graphics and have plans to update all of my older patterns eventually. 

Since I recently ran out of paper copies of my Julia Quilt Pattern, it seemed like the right time to give it a bit of a facelift. In addition to updating the graphics, I was able to add an additional size. The original pattern included instructions for twin and queen size quilts, since the block that is used in the pattern is fairly large and really works well for large quilts. But when I re-did the pattern, it occurred to me that a lap size would also work nicely so I went ahead and added it.

In order to test out the lap size, I pulled out some leftover pieces from this quilt and got to work. The lap size is fat quarter/fat eighth friendly and is super fast. I have always enjoyed making large blocks because they (1) are usually quick, (2) they tend to show off your fabrics pretty well, and (3) they make a statement.

For the backing, I used the bird print from Social and I just love it. The colors are so vibrant and happy. The binding is a pink solid from my stash.
