The Taylor Quilt - Heirloom Version

Very rarely is there a fabric collection where I feel like I need every print in every color for my stash. The cover version of my Taylor Quilt Pattern uses a new collection by Alexia Abegg called Heirloom and it is amazing! The prints are simple, but work beautifully together and would all be useful for mixing with other collections. I love that the collection includes lots of purples and peaches and mustards, since those are the colors I am always looking at add to my stash.

When I had the opportunity to work with the fabric I knew I needed to do something rainbow-y, but I wanted to use a clean, uncomplicated pattern to really show off these simple prints. The prints are reminiscent of Alexia's beautiful pottery work. 

 

One of my goals with the pattern was to make a quilt that would be fat quarter friendly and that would work as a rainbow or non-rainbow quilt. While the rainbow version was a lot of fun to make for the cover, this would work with just about any fat quarter bundle. I would really love to see this made with black and white prints. 

 

The backing fabric is a really pretty, subtle tan color with little birds. Any fabric with a bird makes me think of this Put A Bird On It video. Love it.

 

When I am designing a new pattern, the 4 things that I would ideally like to have. I can't get them for all patterns, but they are always a bonus when things fall into place and I can get all 4 and they did for this one.

1. Precut friendly - especially fat quarter friendly since those are my favorite precut.
2. Beginner-ish friendly
3. Show off your fabrics 
4. Quick 

    

I can see myself making an all-scrap version of this quilt using value like I recently did with the Ruth Quilt Pattern. I have so many scraps, I just need to find some time to make it happen!
