The Isabella Quilt Pattern

I am so excited to share this quilt with you. This is The Isabella Quilt and the pattern is now available here.

After making my Menagerie Quilt, I knew that I wanted to turn this block into a pattern. It uses a giant block - and was part of the inspiration behind my Giant Block Tutorial Series. It has instructions for a 4 Block or 9 Block version and then the option of adding a border for a total of 4 different sizes:

Baby/Child Size Quilt - 51" x 51"
Small Lap Quilt - 57" x 57"
Large Lap Quilt - 78" x 78"
Queen Size Quilt - 90" x 90"

The pattern is beginner friendly, but is also lots of fun for more experienced quilters. Big blocks like these are one of my favorite types of projects because I love choosing a fabric combination for each block.

The Isabella Quilt

All of my quilt patterns are named after someone - for some of the patterns I have discussed the meaning behind the name and some have been more personal. This has been a great opportunity to reflect on that person while working on the quilt and the pattern. It is like a little memorial to the impact they have had on me.

Because of the person this quilt has been named after, working on this pattern has been emotional. In October, two of my kids' classmates (a brother and sister) from our school in San Diego were killed in a tragic house fire. Cristos was in my daughter's 2nd/3rd combo class and Isabella was in my son's kindergarten class. I spent quite a bit of time volunteering in the classroom and I adored Isabella. She was sweet and sassy and I am so overwhelmed by what happened to her. It was therapeutic to make this pattern in her name.

This pattern was tested by 3 wonderful pattern testers. I am so grateful for testers who notice all of my many, many errors and give me wonderful suggestions to help make the pattern easy to follow.

Miranda made the large lap size using Bonnie and Camille fabrics. I love how the fabrics look with the dark background!

Cathy used fabrics from Lynette Anderson and decided to add some flying geese to her border to make her quilt a little bigger. I love how the fabrics look in the pattern - they give the quilt almost a watercolored look!

I love the bright colors Isabelle used in her quilt! It really shows off how the block can look either modern or traditional.
