I really went all out on this one - rainbow scraps and rainbow sashing. The sashing fabric if from Tula Pink's Pinkerville collection (it's no longer available, but it is very similar to this print - this would also be a really fun option).
I tried to get a good variety of shades and values for each color to keep it fun - but it would also be really interesting to keep the shades/values more similar.
This was the perfect project for my too-busy-to-start-anything-new schedule because I was able to piece all of the blocks as leaders when working on other projects. I just kept piles of squares separated by color and pieced a couple every time I sat down at my machine. It was done in no time.
For the quilting, I did my normal organic grid. It gives the quilt just the right texture.
Since I was going all out on the rainbow idea, I really went for it: I did big stitch binding with rainbow perle 8 cotton thread (I found it here on Etsy). I don't know why I never considered doing this before - it was so much fun! And the thread quality was excellent. Normally I use DMC and it is perfectly functional and I haven't had any issues with it, but this was even better. I think I need to invest in some new perle cotton (how gorgeous would this be?).
Eventually, I would like to make a rainbow version of each of my patterns and now I can check my Modern Postage Stamp Quilt off of the list. If you would like to see previous rainbow quilts, check the list below:
If you would like to make your own version, pick up a copy of the pattern here - you will need 8 blocks each from 7 different colors. I did pink, orange, yellow, green, blue, blue/purple, and red/purple.
LOVE your rainbow postage stamp quilt! Perfect flow of color and comfy.

ReplyDeleteLove it!!
ReplyDeleteThe links in your post are broken, except the ones leading to your rainbow quilts. I just bought the Judy pattern, so excited for it to have come out!
ReplyDeleteUh oh, thanks for letting me know!
DeleteI love this! I'm working on a postage stamp quilt, well cutting the squares, I might have to change it to brighter colors after seeing this.
