Back when we were doing the Violet QAL, this was the first stack of fabric I pulled out. I have been feeling more muted palettes lately, and it just so happens that a lot of my favorite prints are a little more muted, so I threw them all together for this quilt.
One nice thing about the Violet Quilt pattern, is that none of the fabrics touch each other which means that it can work with lots of different, crazy fabric combinations. I love a pattern where you can just throw something at it and trust that the fabrics will work.
For the binding on this quilt, I used an Art Gallery Pure Elements solid. I have found that I prefer their solids for binding because they are a little thinner. Also, even though they don't have as many colors as some of the other brands, they have some great muted shades.
The backing on this quilt is an older Ruby Star Society print (I think it's actually old Cotton + Steel) that I had in my stash. I bought it ages ago because it used both purple and red which aren't used together that often and I thought it was fun. It turned out to work perfect for this quilt.
The background fabric is Designer Essentials Solids in Naturals and I have used it on several of my more recent projects. It is a great neutral because it is an off white, but it works with cool colors as well as warm colors so it is really versatile. I prefer it over a stark white.
If you missed the Violet QAL, all of the posts are still up on the blog and are really helpful in making the pattern if you are looking for tips. It's a fun one!

I would like to buy your violet quilt but it does not accept my 4 number postcode which is what we use in New Zealand. Is there a fix for that. Many thanks Jane
ReplyDeleteThat is strange - I have definitely fulfilled orders to New Zealand before so I am not sure what the issue is. Maybe try PayPal?
