There are lots of different brands of solid fabric out there - so many choices! That is great if you are trying to match a color or coordinate with a collection, but if you are making a quilt with JUST solids, it's nice to actually have fewer choices.
Tula Pink has put together a curated lines of solids for FreeSpirit fabrics. I am a huge fan of their Designer Essentials solids anyway, but having a really beautiful, curated collection makes me like them even more.
For this solids version of my Virginia pattern, I went with the cooler end of the color spectrum - lots of greens and blues and they just work so, so well together.
I really wanted to use a variety of values - from darker colors to very light blues. This pattern works really well when value varies across the quilt because I makes your eye move over the quilt.
For the background I went with a simple white solid - not very exciting, but just want this quilt needed.
The backing fabric is one of my new favorites - a 108" Tula Pink Linework print. It's gorgeous.
If you would like to make your own version of the Virginia Quilt, you can pick up a copy in the shop.
