This week, we are constructing our blocks for the Carly QAL. Or, if you are like me, you are going to finish trimming your HSTs and THEN you can start constructing your blocks. Ha ha, oops.
Here are a few things to think about when piecing your blocks:
- Don't forget to pin. Since we are dealing with half square triangles, matching points when piecing isn't just about the 90 degree angles. We also have that pesky 45 degree angle that will look wonky if our points are off. You can make your quilt however you want, but I promise that pins will help you with accuracy. This is extra important for seam intersections when piecing rows together.
- Press. I don't just mean when you are done with your quilt top, I like to press my blocks regularly because it helps the quilt have flatter seams.
- Make adjustments as needed. If you lay out your blocks and you aren't happy - do something about it (if you want). I never regret fixing something that is bothering me.
This part is really fun because your quilt will start to take shape. I like to hang my blocks on my design wall as I finish - it's very motivating! Make sure to use the #carlyqal hashtag when you post on Instagram so we can all see your progress.
