Remember when I had this very tempting stack of fabric a few weeks ago? For about 2 seconds, I wasn't sure what to do with the collection, but I pretty quickly zeroed in on making the Luna Quilt.
Bon Voyage is a beautiful collection! And it has one of my favorite shades of blue — I have no idea what that shade is called, but it's this one. Blues in this shade seem to be underrepresented in the fabric world so I always snatch them up when I see them.
I was interested to see how the stripes would work in the pattern. There are quite a few more prints in the collection than I needed to make the quilt so I could have completely omitted them from the quilt; instead, I leaned into them and used all (or almost all?) of the stripes. I think they add a lot of visual interest.
You know I like to play it safe for background fabric and this quilt was no exception. I didn't want to use white or off-white since there are several prints in the collection with white backgrounds, so I went with with one of my faves: Designer Essential Solids in Putty.
This quilt really deserved the perfect backing fabric and I was already to spring for yardage of that blue floral when I realized that this print was just as good. It's a Ruby Star Grid in Soft Blue and it matches very nicely to the lighter blue colors in the quilt.
The binding is a dark gray (Designer Essentials in Manatee) which is playing it safe again but it just seemed like the right choice. I love how it turned out and how well it framed out the quilt.
This quilt came together so fast and was so fun to make — even after all of the time I spent just admiring and petting the pretty fabrics. If you would like to make your own quilt just like this one, Bon Voyage is available in shops now and the Luna Quilt Pattern is available in my shop!
