The Ivy Quilt in Sugar

I really love sewing with basics. I don't just mean mixed in with other fabrics, they are so great on their own! They are the perfect cross between a solid and a print. There is a new collection (potentially a future basic?) from Ruby Star Society called Sugar and it was a lot of fun for the Ivy Quilt

I used a jelly roll for my quilt + I had some yardage of the black print from the collection on hand to use for the cornerstones.

You will notice when I share my scrappy version of this quilt tomorrow that the two quilts have the same background fabric. I would like to pretend that is just because I wanted to compare a scrappy quilt with a non-scrappy quilt using the same background fabric. What really happened is that I cut the background fabric for this quilt and then lost it in my messy sewing room. Oops! I had enough of the print to cut enough for a second quilt so I did that until I was able to find my original fabric.

Sugar has some great brighter colors — my favorite from the collection is probably Bluebell. It's a great dark blue that isn't quite navy.

The background fabric is the Pottery color from the collection. I love that it isn't white, but it isn't really tan, and it also isn't gray. It's a good warm, in-between color that will work with lots of different fabric combination.

There is also a fabric that is a cream colored background with a neon pink dot that is great (I didn't use it in my quilt but it is part of the collection). A very similar print appeared in one of their previous collections (can't remember which one) and I had been hoarding it. I recently used it for my pink and purple Carly Quilt that I made, but I only felt comfortable using it after realizing that this color would be available. It isn't exactly the same shade of neon pink, but I think I like the new color even better.

The backing fabric is the super versatile Speckled 108" wide in Berry that I have used in a couple of previous projects (see here and here and here). It's a great color.

You can find Sugar in shops right now (please don't buy all of the neon pink dot, I need to stock up!) and you can pick up a copy of the Ivy Quilt in the shop.
