It's time for a quiltalong! This time we will be quilting along to the Luna Quilt Pattern. I am still working out some of the details, but here are the basics.
Who?
Anyone, but especially beginners. For a while, I have been wanting to write a series of "How to Make a Quilt" posts for new quilters and I am going to do them in conjunction with the quiltalong. There will be lots of videos showing how to do each step in the process.
What?
A quiltalong is a way for a group of us to make the same quilt pattern together. The Luna Quilt pattern is jelly roll OR fat quarter OR scrap friendly so it is a great way to use up a bundle or jelly roll from your stash. I am also working to get a few kits available from shops if you would rather go that route.
There will be info about how to make the scrappy version of the pattern too. I will be making one quilt using a jelly roll and one quilt using scraps.
When?
The quiltalong will begin on September 19th and it will move very slowly. You can jump in and join us at anytime. The quiltalong will finish the week before Christmas.
Where?
Information will be shared in a few different places during the quiltalong:
- Right here in the blog.
- On Instagram (of course) — there will be posts about the QAL several, reels, stories, and probably a live video here and there.
- YouTube — this will be actually be the main place that I will share information so make sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel (it's free).
- Newsletter — I have set up a separate newsletter just for the quiltalong. This will be a weekly summary of blog posts, IG posts, and YouTube videos. If you already receive my newsletter, you will need to sign up separately for the quiltalong newsletter.
The dates may fluctuate a little during the quiltalong if it feels like some parts are going too fast or too slow. There is a week at the end of October where I will be out of town but my plan is to have everything scheduled that week so the QAL can continue as normal. I have labeled Thanksgiving week as a catchup week in the schedule — I know that not everyone is in the US, but I am and I will be busy that week!
Just like the last couple of quiltalongs that I did, there will not be prizes as part of the quiltalong. They are fun, but they really stress me out and I want this to be as fun as possible for everyone (including me).
We will have two weeks at the beginning of the quiltalong that will discuss choosing fabrics, but go ahead and get yours ordered if you know which fabrics you would like to use. Make sure to download the free coloring sheet for the pattern and get your copy of the Luna Quilt pattern while it is on sale. Use code LunaQAL for 20% from now until the beginning of the quiltalong.
