One category of quilt patterns that I particularly love and never get tired of making, is a pattern that can really show off your fabric.
Let me introduce you to the Judy Quilt Pattern - here are some of the reasons why you are going to love this one:
- It is quick! I have already made this pattern 4 times (!) and the first two times I cut out and made the entire quilt top in a day (note: I am not guaranteeing you can make the quilt in a day 😉).
- It is fat quarter friendly - actually, you can choose fat eighths or fat quarters for some of the fabrics.
- It will show off your fabric. I made another version using the new Sarah Jane Wonderful World collection (I will share that next week, but you might find a photo in my Instagram feed) and it was perfect for fussy cutting.
- It uses very little "background fabric" - sometimes I like to make a quilt with a lot of background, but then that uses a lot of background fabric and I don't always have a lot on hand (especially over the last few months when solid white fabric became scarce). This pattern's only background-like fabric is Fabric D (the fabric behind the plus shapes) and the lap size only uses 1/3 yard.
- This pattern works really well for a bundle from a fabric collection - the first three versions that I made were all from fat quarter bundles (the last one is a scrappy rainbow version). But it is also a great pattern for curating your own fabric bundle. I really want to make a black/white version from my stash next.
I have a lot more to share about this quilt, but you will have to wait for that later this week as well as my pattern testers' quilts. In the meantime, make sure to check out my Instagram feed for more information and head over to the shop to pick up a copy of the pattern for yourself.
I will be sharing more about the cover version this week - but I will let you know that it is a new Heather Bailey collection from Figo Fabrics. If you have been quilting for a while, you might remember her Nicey Jane and Pop Garden collections from way back. These were some of my favorite collections when I first started quilting and I was ecstatic to work with this True Kisses collection.
In the meantime, head over to the shop to pick up your own copy of the Judy Quilt Pattern!
Nicey Jane was one of my faves and is STILL in my stash! I love this collection and your pattern, too. They look perfect together.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorites too, I still have a little hiding in my stash ;)
DeleteThis pattern is a winner! I have some big lilac flower prints that would work great with this.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds beautiful!
Deleteeeeek. Erica, you are on fire with your adorable patterns!!
ReplyDeleteI love this pattern. It showcases some very lovely prints for the large blocks!
I love the sashing too
Thank you so much Rosemary!
DeleteLove it! Is this Layer Cake friendly? I have a layer cake that I really want to focus on the fabrics and this could potentially be perfect.
ReplyDeleteI wish it was, but it uses a little more fabric than you can get from a layer cake. I'm sorry!
Deletewhere can i buy the fabric?
ReplyDeleteThe fabric won't be available until March!
DeleteCouldn’t resist buying the pattern! Super cute. I’ve added to my “someday soon” list of gotta makes!
