I have a new pattern to share with you today! All of my patterns are named after someone of significance in my life. At some point I will go through and write up an explanation of where each name comes from, but this one is easy to explain: Taylor is my maiden name.
I have a little bit of a complicated relationship with the name since my parents divorced when I was a teenager (long story) and I was happy to trade it out for husband's last name when I got married. But the name is still part of who I am and it felt meaningful to be able to use it here.
When I was growing up, many of my friends had family traditions that originated in their parents or grandparents' home countries. My family has lived in the US for so many generations that I never felt that kind of heritage to another country, but I felt it as a Texan. Some of my Taylor ancestors have lived in Northeastern Texas for 170 years. My most famous relative is on my Taylor side - Bonnie Parker (of Bonnie and Clyde fame) is my 3rd cousin. And of course, even though relationships can be complicated, I love my Taylor family.
Here is some of my favorite parts about the pattern:
- It is fat quarter friendly 🙌
- The lap and twin sizes are strip pieced so it is nice and fast (the baby size isn't for fabric efficiency reasons).
- It is a great place to play with fabric - it can be rainbow, scrappy, stashbusting, etc. Since the piecing isn't complicated, you can really go crazy with fabric selections.
- You can fussy cut - especially the center square. I will be sharing a baby size version soon where I did a little fussy cutting.
This quilt is a zippy sweet one. I love it. Now I want to make one too!!

So your name means that there were probably some tailors in your family. I only know my all of my heritage is from Holland and they have some very silly names that I doubt seriously here in the US there would be heritage of someone with the name Naaktgeboren or Zondervan. All sort of made up names but there is History of how and why those names came about. My former last name is De Leeuw, actually filed under the L's in the phone book in Holland ad De is a prefix kind of thing
And of course those last names change over the centuries. I believe my father's ancestor in the 1600's was De Leve. Kind of cool
Sorry you suffered trauma of a divorce. I know that must have been very hard. I cannot imagine the pain and confusion. Life is bumpy road. I am happy that you are on the internets and that I know you ❣️🥰
How interesting! When I was growing up, I hated how common my last name was, you definitely had a unique one!
