The Virginia Quilt Pattern - First Light Version

Thank you for your excitement about the Virginia Quilt Pattern! Today I get to tell you a little more about the version on the cover of the pattern.

For this version, I used First Light, which is a new collaborative collection from Ruby Star Society and it is stunning. It has beautiful detail, some fun metallic accents, and I feel like it uses a lot of colors that we don't see in quilting cotton all that often (bright coral, light pink, and a really pretty citron). 

The collection uses some very light valued prints, some super dark valued prints, and everything in between. There are a lot of prints in the collection - some are muted and some are bright. Generally for a collection like this, I would take a portion of the collection to make a quilt, but I wanted a pattern that let each of the prints shine equally.

This is my very first pattern that has instructions for a king size version and I think that the pattern makes a beautiful bed size quilt. The baby, lap, and twin size quilts all use the same size blocks and the queen and king size use a slightly larger block.

For the backing fabric, I used this gorgeous pink print. If anyone at Ruby Star Society is reading this, please make this print as a basic! It is such a great, modern take on polka dots and I want it in every color.

 

I made a second version of the pattern using another RSS collection and will be sharing it tomorrow - it is so fun to see two versions of the same pattern together!

 

This is definitely one of my favorite Ruby Star Society collections so far and there was a lot of fabric petting and admiring happening while I was making this quilt. I really love how it gives the pattern a polished, modern look.
